We always look for ways to get rid of fat from our body. Unhealthy lifestyles and excessive eating cause fats to reside in our stomach, arms, hips and buttocks. Some people suffer from obesity, and it is harder for them to eliminate fats just by eating less and exercising. They often require medical help to lose weight, such as liposuction or bariatric surgery. But there is an emerging procedure that is gaining ground in the medical and cosmetic industry, and it is cryolipolysis. It is a relatively new procedure that not many people know about.
What it is
Cryolipolysis is a fat freezing treatment that freezes fat cells, which exit the body through a natural process, through the urine. It is a painless medical procedure done in a doctor’s clinic. One session can remove about 25% to 35% of fat cells. The process takes about half an hour. You can read or use your phone while the process is taking place. You may feel a bit of discomfort from the vacuuming of the fatty area, but it is quickly resolved because the skin will numb shortly.
How it works
The doctor will assess the area to freeze. The doctor will then use an applicator that is appropriate for the area that the doctor will treat. He will then place a gel pad on the area to protect the skin. The applicator is hollow; the space inside the applicator is where it will suck the bulge for treatment — the temperature on the applicator drops, which then numbs the skin and freezes the fats in the area. After a half hour or so, the doctor removes the applicator and gently massages the area.
Is it effective in the long run?
It is important to note that the results are not instant. It will take weeks for the frozen fat to decompose and exit the body through the kidneys or urine. The effects of cryolipolysis are only as effective as your determination to keep new fat cells from accumulating in your body. If you do not exercise and eat healthy, then new fat cells will develop in your body, requiring you to undergo the procedure again.
How long is the downtime?
Unlike liposuction that uses a large needle to suck the fat out of the body and needs a few days to a few weeks for the patient to recover, undergoing cryolipolysis requires no downtime at all. You can go back to doing your daily chores right after the procedure. No needles will poke your body parts, and no anaesthetics will invade your system.
If you want an alternative to invasive procedures for getting rid of body fats, you may try cryolipolysis and see for yourself how effective it is in eliminating fats through natural means. It is necessary to consult your physician beforehand if you have an existing medical condition to see if you are a suitable candidate for this procedure and to ensure it will not interfere with any medical intervention you are currently undergoing.
