If your skin is important to you, then you understand that it takes more than just washing your face with soap or warm water to keep it healthy and looking great. You may have heard the term “skincare routine.”
But first do you know what skincare routine is? Skincare routine is a series of steps that you should follow in order to keep your skin healthy and glowing.
It is important to maintain a skincare routine because it helps to prevent skin from aging prematurely, and it also helps to reduce the risk of developing acne.
It is simply what you use daily to maintain your skin and prevent breakouts, blackheads and wrinkles as well. Skin care is a lot more than just applying face cream and not many women understand this.
A comprehensive skin care routine consists of using the right facial cleanser, toner, eye cream and moisturiser every day.
However, to come up with a good skin care routine, you must know what your skin type is.
What are the different skin types?
We all have different skin types. It’s not just a matter of being dry and oily, though.
Our skin is made up of different layers, and each one has its own unique characteristics. The epidermis is the top layer of your skin, which contains keratinocytes (or “keratinocytes”).
These are responsible for keeping you protected from the outside world. The keratinocytes produce a protein called keratin, which helps keep the outer layer of your skin strong and waterproof.
The dermis is the second layer of your skin, and it contains melanocytes—specialized cells that produce melanin, which gives your skin its color. Melanin protects your body from UV radiation (which can cause sunburns).
This layer also contains collagen fibers that give structure to your skin and elastin fibers that provide elasticity so that it bounces back after being stretched or pinched.
Your third layer is called subcutaneous tissue—this is where fat cells are stored throughout your body!
Fat cells in this layer are responsible for how much padding you have on your body – whether you’re thin or overweight – as well as how much heat escapes through them during exercise activity levels high enough to cause sweating).
Skin comes in different types because of the way it’s structured. WIth that being said, there are five different skin types: dry, combination, oily, sensitive, and acne-prone.
Dry skin is a common skin type that often shows up in wintertime. It is characterized by a lack of oil, which makes the skin more susceptible to cracking and flaking.
This type of skin can occur at any age and on any part of the body, but it is more common in older people. People who live in dry climates or who have sensitive skin are also more likely to have dry skin.
If you have dry skin, you may notice that your face feels tight after washing it with soap or water. You might also see fine lines on your face when you smile or frown.
People with dry skin often experience itching, burning or stinging sensations when their skin is exposed to the elements or irritants such as harsh soaps or chemicals.
This type of skin often requires extra attention when it comes to moisturizing because it lacks natural oils called sebum that help keep moisture in the epidermis layer of the skin.
In fact, dry skin types are typically light in color with redness around areas such as eyes or nose when irritated due to dryness or lack of hydration from environmental exposure (windburn).
Aside from Dry skin type, Combination skin is a skin type that has both dry and oily areas. This means that the T-zone can be oily, while the cheeks and forehead may be dry.
It’s important to note that this is not a medical condition, but rather a description of what your skin looks like. As a matter of fact, it is not one of the common skin types, but it does exist.
If you have combination skin, you may find that some parts of your face are shiny and oily while others are dry and flaky or tight. Some people with combination skin have large pores on their nose or chin area, while others do not have large pores at all.
Others are a little confused about this skin type because it is harder to figure out compared to others skin types. However, when you take a look a closer, Combination skin is easier to find out.
By knowing what causes it and why it exists. This exists because the oil glands in your body might produce too much oil, while other glands produce too little oil.
Your sebaceous glands produce an excess amount of oil, which is then released over a large part of the body.
Your sweat glands don’t work as well as they should, so there’s a lack of moisture on your face or body that needs to be balanced out by the oils produced by your sebaceous glands.
Another cause is you could have an inherited skin type from one parent that predisposes you to having this condition even if you don’t have any family history with it (for example if one parent has oily or dry skin).
While having a Combination skin type is a struggle, what more it could be for people with Oily skin type?
Sebum is produced by the sebaceous glands in your skin, which are responsible for producing a protective layer against bacteria and germs. When these glands produce more sebum than necessary, it can lead to an overproduction of oil on your face.
Oily skin can be a nightmare—it’s prone to acne and clogged pores, it doesn’t look great with makeup (if it’s even possible for you to wear makeup), and it’s greasy and shiny. You might also notice that your skin gets really red when you’re stressed out or excited.
This type of skin is often associated with hormonal changes and stress levels. Oily skin tends to be more common in adolescence and early adulthood, when hormone levels are changing rapidly, but can occur at any age.
If you did not see yourself having the mentioned skin types above, then probably you have acne-prone skin. Acne prone skin is also known as sensitive skin type.
It is a type of skin which has large pores and are easily clogged by dirt and oil that are produced by the body. People with acne prone skin have a tendency to develop pimples or blemishes on their face and body.
Although these pimples are not harmful to our health, they can cause discomfort and embarrassment to those who have them.
If you are one of those people who have this skin type don’t worry! We’ve got your back.
We have enumerated the different skin types, hopefully this has helped you figure out your own. Now, let us give you an idea of the several steps involved in a good skin care routine.
However, there are some basic steps that everyone should follow. Following are the steps:
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser twice a day. This will remove excess oil from the surface of your skin, as well as other impurities like dirt and makeup residue.
You need to use a cleanser that suits your skin type and do not over-wash your face because it can make it dry and flaky.
Follow up with toner or astringent once or twice a day depending on how oily or dry your skin is. This will help close open pores and give you a fresh feeling after washing your face with cleanser.
Apply moisturizer on top of toner/astringent (if used). This will lock in moisture into the layers of your epidermis and keep them hydrated throughout the day/night if used before bedtime.
We highly recommend you to use these products to help you achieve this good skin care routine.
